In the words of our Saviour Jesus Christ, “It is the Spirit that gives life, the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you, they are Spirit and they are life.” – John 6:63. The very best that the flesh can do for us is nothing!
It is more than obvious that the language of the world we live in is of the flesh, however, let us remember that we are in this world but we are not of this world. Irrespective of the truth of this word, many Christians today choose to live according to the dictates of the flesh by refusing to yield to the Spirit. Too caught up in their own affairs and the satisfaction of self, forgetting that we are no longer our own or of ourselves.
The simple truth is this; one can at all times satisfy either the flesh or the Spirit and never both. “Walk in the Spirit and ye shall not fulfill the desires of the flesh.” – Galatians 5:16. In other words if you do not walk in the Spirit, then you are walking in the flesh. There is no middle ground!
It is of uttermost importance, dear brethren, that we walk in the Spirit; in fervent prayer and diligent study of the Word. By so doing we can die to self and put on Christ, carrying our cross daily.
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Matt 16:24-26 (KJV).
In the words of the Apostle Paul, “If we through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the flesh, we shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” – Romans 8: 13-14.
It is our prayer that all grace will abound towards you in every way, that you may be strengthened in your spirit to crucify the flesh, take up your cross and follow Christ. God bless you! Amen.
